Metadata enrichment

You type a title; the rest gets looked up. Part of that happens straight away, part in the background just after you hit save.

What you see immediately

Pick a title from the search box and the form fills with what that source knows about it: cover or poster, author or director, publisher, runtime, tracklist, genres — the layer that's there before you even save.

What arrives afterwards

Once the item is saved we go looking for what's still missing:

  • Music — a description from MusicBrainz or Wikipedia, and only if neither has one, a written summary. We also link the album to Apple Music and Spotify so you can play it from the page.
  • Films — TMDB's synopsis in your language, with a written version as the fallback.
  • Books — the publisher's blurb, via the book databases; failing that, a summary based on what's known about the book.
  • Concerts — there's no blurb to fall back on here, so that description is always written for you.

The cross-links start here too: the book and the soundtrack on a film, the adaptation on a book, the films on an album.

Descriptions in other languages are only made once you open the item in that language; after switching language that can take a moment.

Anything you write yourself stays. Edit a description and it will never be overwritten by an automatic one.

An import works differently

A thousand-row import shouldn't turn that whole mill a thousand times. So on a bulk import we deliberately skip the full pass and fetch only what genuinely belongs to the row: covers and blurbs on books, the TMDB match with poster and credits on films, artwork and a description on concerts.

The cross-links are missing at that point. You get some of them back simply by opening the item: on an imported book we go looking for the adaptation right then, on an imported film for the soundtrack. The other direction — the book behind an imported film, or the films behind an imported album — doesn't arrive on its own after an import.
